3. Change the Way You Do Laundry

Firstly, only wash full loads of laundry. Your washer still uses the same amount of energy and water no matter how full it is so you should only put it on when it’s full.
Also, if you normally wash your clothes at 130 degrees, try washing them at 110 degrees or lower. And opt for a slightly shorter cycle too. Experiment with how cool and fast you can wash your clothes while maintaining the same level of cleanliness.

Try and keep your thermostat between 70-78 degrees. Every couple of degrees above 78 or below 70 adds 10% extra to your heating bill. You also don’t want the heat or air conditioning to be blasting in unoccupied rooms.
Getting in the habit of putting on (or taking off) a layer before you increase the heat or air conditioning is one of the top ways to reduce energy consumption.
Investing in a smart thermostat could help you keep on top of the heating and cooling in your home. They’re much easier to control than regular thermostats so you’re more likely to adjust them as you go about your day.
Smart thermostats also learn your routine and give you reminders. So, if you’ve left for work but the heating is still on, you can turn it off from your phone.
5. Switch up How You Use Appliances
Changing which appliances you use and how often is one of the many ways to reduce energy waste. Many appliances use what’s known as “vampire” energy, meaning they suck energy without you realizing it.
When you’re not using appliances, learn to turn them off and unplug. You may not want to do this with some appliances like TVs, but at least unplug it when you’re on vacation.
